Note: Sorry this is kind of a long post... But if you make it to the end you will see a very cute picture.
Ok, so I am a little on the dramatic side, but this issue is serious. In my welcome back post I told you that for a couple of weeks Madison has been sick (she is so over it now) and she was having a hard time breathing because her nose was full of yucky stuff. Well while this was happening she would wake up in the middle of the night and we would have to clean her nose out so she would fall back to sleep. Well needless to say, she would only go back to sleep when she would be in our bed. I know, I know, mistake #1. So for the time she was sick she would end up in our bed, roughly about a week and a half.
Well here comes the drama. Two months ago, her doctor told us that we needed to get little miss on a schedule, bedtime before 11:30 pm. We tried the cry until you fall asleep method, but I was miserable and I could not stick with it, so it was back to the late nights with little miss. Well hubs brought it up with me again this month. Keep in mind, her crib is in our room, right next to our bed. I know, I know, mistake #2. Just in case you want to know, yes she has a room, I was just afraid for her to sleep in there all by herself with out a monitor while she was little. So as I was saying we started the cry until you fall asleep method with her in our room and a little light from the bathroom. Ok, so for the first few night, I was highly ticked off because hubs was making her suffer (and me too). I just thought it was killing her, but then about 3 days into it she was fine. Now here come the drama.....
One night she wakes up and she starts to cry so she could get in our bed. The drama you wonder is.......
IT'S 3:00am!! She cries for about 10 minutes before hubs gets up and try to put her back to sleep. No such luck and it was 2 hours later. So it was my turn to try, 1 1/2 hours later she is sleep in her crib. Thinking that this was a one time affair, she does it again the next night, and the next night for the past week. So there is no sleep to be had by either of the parents for about a week.
SO instead of trying to put her back to sleep we thought maybe we should just let her cry it out, but because she could see us, she cried for an hour before hubs was like lets just put her in the bed so we can get some sleep. I know, I know mistake #3. So we hear all the horror stories of kids still sleeping in their parents bed because of this and we were like this is a no go. We have to break the mold. So with my brilliant idea was to turn the crib around so she could not see us because I thought she was so short to see over the back of her crib. Well we go to sleep and right on time 3:00 am-ish she is up, standing on the bumper look at us crying in her bed. That was a no go. So up I go for the first shift of trying to put her back to sleep. Well it only took an hour and she was down for about 2 hours before she is up again.
Has anyone had this type of problem with your baby?
I know, I know, the next step is to put her in her own room, but I am so use to her being in our room, right next to our bed so I could just look over at her, or put the covers on her when she kicks them off. Monday night she slept until 7:30am Tuesday, not sure if she will do it again, but I will keep you posted.
SO tell me do you think it is time for me to put her in her own room? We would have to get a monitor first and we would have to do it next week when my granny leaves. I so don't want to let go and grow up. It is so hard seeing her as a soon to be toddler! Ahhh, I have a tear because next month she will be a year old. Makes me want to have another one, but not until this one is out of diapers will I even consider that possibility. Here is a picture that hubs took of Miss Madison while she is test out her new toy, the boppy pillow..

How come she can't sleep this peacefully at night. The nerves of this little girl. LOL!!!!!

Oh we went through this with our little one. Some nights it was waking up like 15 times. We never brought them in bed with us. So lots of sleepless nights for us. But now they are all great sleepers and once down they stay down. That is the sweetest picture. She may be teething or something in her room that scares her.
ReplyDeleteThat is the cutest picture! I so cannot give you any helpful advice on this one because all 3 of our girls slept with us! Lily still sleeps with us and she just turned 3. When my oldest was little, I was working full time and the only way to survive and get any sleep at all was to let her sleep with us. Then now that we have the 2 story house, I just could not have my other 2 upstairs and me downstairs, mostly because once they got too big for their cribs, I was afraid they'd try coming downstairs in the middle of the night and fall (gates wouldn't hold them in!). They all started sleeping in their own beds between 3 and 4 and that's always been fine with us. I know, real helpful to you huh?! LOL!
ReplyDeleteThat is a precious picture.
ReplyDeleteI can only offer this advice. I know it's hard to let them grow up. It kind of breaks your heart in a way! I would put her in her own room. It will do you and your hubby good, but it will be the best thing for her. If you don't, next thing you know she'll be 5 and still in there. We had to let Boyd cry it out for about 2 nights, and he has been great in his room ever since. We did this early on. I had to keep my sanity! She needs her full night of sleep and you will actually be doing her a huge favor!! Good luck and I'll pray for you!
Oh my gosh. She is so cute. That picture is DARLING. Really adorable!
ReplyDeleteI would be a terrible person to ask about this because I did let Kaishon sleep with me when he woke up as a baby. People say don't do it, but it was easy for me :) and I wasn't married yet. Now of course, when we have a baby, Gary will not go for that at all.
All I can say about letting them grow up is that it happens wether we want them to or not. And it happens so quickly! : ) She will do fine in her room. And monitors aren't that expensive. Good luck! : )
All I have to say is that one of these days, Madison will be older and this issue will be a blip on the radar. :)
ReplyDeleteOh, and I found some helpful sleeping advice in the book The Baby Whisperer. I think there's a website with the same name with a helpful forum.
