My Tribute to Madison

My dearest daughter Madison,

I will never forget the day that you came into my life. Nothing about that day could have been more magical that your introduction. I was so amazed at how small you were, and how pale, but most of all I could not believe that for the first time in all my life, my biggest dream had come true.

When we brought you home things were kind of hard for the first few weeks, there were a lot of scares: Daddy lost his job, you got rushed to the emergency because you were chocking and I was suffering from a bit of depression. However those days are long gone and life with you is simply perfect.

You have changed so much over the past 12 months and even though I can not remember every single detail to the tee, I seem to remember all the things that were important. For example:

1. The day you were born
2. The first time the nurses tried to force feed you, milk came out of your nose and I pitched a fit.
3. The car ride home. That was the first time I ever new daddy to drive the speed limit home, he was so careful.
4. Our first trip to the doctors for your one week appointment. I remember the fact that I was never taking you back to that hospital.
5. Your first outing. It was kind of early and a strange woman made sure to tell me that.
6. Our trip to the Aquarium and the Arboretum. You slept the whole time at the Arboretum and every picture we got has your eyes closed.
7. The first you cried so hard that we knew something was wrong. We took you to the doctor for the rash that was making your miserable, only for them to misdiagnose you 3 times before getting it right.
8. The first time you rolled over. I called daddy and told him all about it.
9. When you drank more than 3 oz of milk. I mean you still only drink 2 oz more than that now.
10. The first time I was away from you. I think you did much better than I did. I called your grandmother at least 5 times while at the Janet Jackson concert.
11. First time you tried baby food. You hated the rice cereal, so Mommy cheated a bit and added applesauce.
12. The first time you pooped on me. I will never use Pampers again after that day.
13. Your first day of MDO. I think I called only twice that day, but I was so ready to pick you up from your little school.
14 . The second you started to pull yourself on the floor.
15. When you first stood up by yourself.
16. Your first tooth. Now you have three.
17. The first night you slept in your own room.
18. Your most recent, taking 9 steps. You still are not sure about it yet, but you will get there.
19. Your reaction to your birthday cake.
20. The fact that your turning 1.

This year has been really wonderful and I look forward to many more years to come. Each year will be harder on me because I know that one day you will not be with me quite as much as you are with me now, but I still have a long way to go. Madison, my darling little girl, Mommy loves you so much and I just want to wish you a Happy 1st Birthday!
